Acting on a complaint from the US Consulate in Mumbai, the crime branch here arrested a father-son duo Saturday for allegedly forging documents of their customers to help them travel to the US and other countries.
Mukesh Gupta and his son Vijay were arrested from their tour & travel service office in the citys Fatehgunj area.
According to deputy commissioner of police Subhash Trivedi, the father-son duo ran two shops, one of which,Next Journey Travels, existed only on paper.
The duo ran two travel agencies, but only RNM Travel was present while the other, through which they operated by forging documents, was only on paper, he said.
The office of US Consulate General in Mumbai, which found a police complaint on Friday, had reportedly carried out an investigation of its own and found that Next Journey Travels had sent at least four couples to obtain US visa on documents that were found to be fake.
The US Consulate found that the four couples who had approached them for visa had forged documents such as income certificate, property details, bank balance, among others. The officer at the US Consulate General investigated and found there was no travel agency by the name of Next Journey, police said.
The police have seized computers and hard disks from the travel agency office.
