Former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel on Thursday raised the issue of “growing poverty” in the state,saying every third Gujarati was poor.

Former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel on Thursday raised the issue of “growing poverty” in the state,saying every third Gujarati was poor. “The number of BPL families in the state has increased by 39% in 2012 compared to 2000… That means every third Gujarati is poor,” he posted in his blog. ”…figures released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation are eye-opener for the every citizen. Gujarat,which has always stayed ahead in growth,has been surpassed by states like Bihar,Chhattisgarh,Delhi and Pondicherry in GDP growth,” he added.
