WITH an aim to promote sustainable development of cities through energy efficiency, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, South Asia, held a one-day workshop in the city on Monday and decided to launch pilot projects in coming days.
International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), and UNEP have selected Rajkot and four other Indian cities —Bhopal, Coimbatore, Pune and Thane — for its district cooling system initiative aimed at energy efficiency and development of cities with low-carbon footprints.
Experts also discussed results of the primary assessment of the five cities. “In Rajkot, Lodhika Industrial Estate and 150-feet Ring Road have been identified as potential sites,” said ICLEI’s Ankit Makvana.
