A suspect in a double murder case gave the Surendranagar police the slip when he was being taken to a place to recover the weapons used in the crime late on Sunday.
Manoj Koli,a resident of Tarnetar village in Chotila taluka of Surendranagar district, was apprehended by the Vankaner police on Sunday in connection with the murders of Hukamsinh Merat and Prabhusingh Chauhan.
Merat and Chauhan were working with a health insurance firm and were based in Ahmedabad.
Their bodies were found in a well near Khampalia village in Muli taluka on Sunday morning.
After the agents car was found abandoned near Vankaner, police rounded up Koli as Chauhans brother Vedprakash,a resident of Ajmer in Rajasthan, named him as an accused in his complaint. Subsequently, the Vankaner police handed Koli to the Muli police.
According to Vedprakashs complaint,Koli and three others murdered his brother and the other agent over a monetary dispute.
The three other suspects have been identified as Arjan Pola Rabari,Arjan Sukha Rabari and Jaga Rabari, all resident of Ranipat.
The four allegedly invited Chauhan and Merat for a dinner on Friday and and then beat them to death with sticks and blunt objects. They dumped the bodies in a well.
During questioning,Koli confessed to his involvement in the crime and told us that they had thrown a knife in Ranipat village. When we took him to Ranipat,Koli managed to escape in the dark of the night, said Muli DySP Haresh Dudhat.
Police said the three other suspects are also on the run.
