After the Dangs district panchayat elections on November 29 ended in a tie, with both BJP and Congress getting 9 seats each out of the total 18 seats, a winning candidate of the Congress party failed to turn up at the district panchayat office on Tuesday. This led to the BJP retaining power in the district panchayat.
Congress’ woman candidate, Manisha Gangude, who contested from Dhavlidod village seat, has been reported to be “missing” for the last few days. Upon learning this, the Congress candidates have made all possible efforts to find her, but she has not been located yet. Her house has been locked ever since she has been “missing”.
On Tuesday afternoon, all nine members of the BJP were present in the Dangs district panchayat building while only eight members from the Congress party were present. Taking the side of the majority, the BJP was given governing power of the Dangs district panchayat.

Baburao Chaurya of the BJP was made the president and Somnath Bhoye its vice-president. Senior Congress leader of the Dangs, Suryakant Gavit, said, “We have made all possible efforts to find her. We have checked at her relatives’ places also. We suspect that BJP leaders might have made her go underground. Once she comes out, we will talk to her and find out the reason of her absence.”
