Cyclone Biparjoy: Centre clears Rs 338 crore as financial aid ‘against demand of Rs 700 crore’

Centre has cleared financial aid of Rs 338.24 crore for Gujarat for the damage it suffered due to Cyclone Biparjoy that hit the state in June. The aid has been approved against state’s demand of Rs 700.42 crore, said sources.

“The central government has today approved the financial assistance of Rs. 338.24 crore to Gujarat, which was severely affected by the Cyclone Biparjoy…Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the centre and the Gujarat government made advanced preparations and achieved a zero casualty rate. In the aftermath of the extremely severe cyclone, the Ministry of Home Affairs immediately deputed the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) for assessment of the damages…,” read an official release on Tuesday. Sources in the government said that Gujarat had put forward a demand of Rs 700.42 crore before the central government. The extremely severe cyclone hit Gujarat in mid-June, affecting 10 districts of the state. Power, agriculture, and roads & buildings departments suffered maximum damage due to the cyclone.
