The Gujarat High Court Thursday extended the stay till June 12 on any investigation against senior Gujarat-cadre IPS officer Satish Verma in connection with three alleged custodial killings in Porbandar in 1996-97 when he was posted as the superintendent of police there.
The court was hearing Vermas petition seeking to recall an earlier HC order for a fresh investigation into the three alleged killings. The officer had argued that a probe conducted by an Inspector General of Police had already given him a clean chit in the matter earlier.
Last year, the Supreme Court had stayed the HC order for a fresh probe but recently, the apex court vacated its stay and asked Verma to approach Gujarat HC with a fresh petition within a week.
Accordingly,Verma moved a petition before the HC seeking recall of its April 2012 order for a fresh probe into the matter.
The next hearing is due on June 12.
