A special CBI court hearing the Ishrat Jahan encounter case on Tuesday reserved its order till May 2 on the probe agency’s plea for issuing an arrest warrant against additional director general of police P P Pandey.

So far,six policemen have been arrested in the case, including IPS officer Girish Singhal and DySP Tarun Barot.

Pandey was joint commissioner of police in Ahmedabad in 2004 when Ishrat Jahan,Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai,Amjadali Akbarali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were shot dead in a police encounter.

CBI had filed a revision petition before the court on Monday after additional chief judicial magistrate H S Khutwad rejected the plea last week in this regard.

CBI counsel argued before the judge,Gita Gopi, that Pandey had evaded two notices dated April 22 and April 24 for his appearance before the probe agency.

“A team went to Pandey’s government residence at Bungalow no 24,Dafnala,in Shahibaug where his adult son was present. His son did not disclose his whereabouts or his mobile number,” CBI told the court.

CBI said Pandey reported sick on April 20 and sent a fax message to his office but did not give details of facts pertaining to his illness. Pandey also did not leave his contact details in the fax message.
