A metropolitan court here on Monday ordered a police inquiry into the defamation suit filed against activist Teesta Setalvad by her former associate Rais Khan Pathan.
The court ordered DCP (Zone-V) Parikshita Rathod to file a report within 60 days.
In its order, the court said that before initiating further legal proceedings,it was necessary to bring all documents and reports in connection to the allegations, which could not be done by a court inquiry, and hence a police inquiry was a must.
Pathan filed an application before metropolitan magistrate TS Brahmbhatt last month accusing Teesta of publishing defamatory remarks against him in her magazine Communalism Combat and websites of Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) by linking him with VHP and other Hindu extremist outfits.
Pathan earlier assisted Teesta in her work for the victims of 2002 Gujarat riots till he was sacked in 2008 as coordinator of CJP in Gujarat. Pathan had also accused Teesta of tutoring riot witnesses to frame innocent persons.
