A Metropolitan court is likely to pronounce its order on Monday on Zakia Jafri’s petition challenging the closure report of the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team,that gave clean chit to Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others from their alleged conspiracy behind the 2002 post Godhra riots.
The order was to be pronounced on October 28 following the completion of arguments that had lasted for five months before metropolitan magistrate B J Ganatra. On October 28,the magistrate deferred pronouncement of order for December 2.
Jafri’s husband and former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri was among 69 people who were killed in the Gulbarg society massacre during the 2002 post-Godhra riots. She had filed a complaint against Modi and others for the alleged conspiracy behind the riots.
The SIT following its investigation filed a closure report last year in which it gave clean chit to Modi and other accused. Against this report,Jafri filed a protest petition and challenged the report. During the arguments,her lawyers claimed that SIT acted like a judge and instead of filing a chargesheet it gave clean chit and filed a closure report. However,SIT had discarded Jafri’s allegations saying that her complaint itself as “fabricated” and “work of fiction”.
