The accused have been booked under sections 8(c) (sale, purchase, and consumption of narcotic drugs), 21 (c) (contravention involves commercial quantity) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The Ahmedabad Special Operations Group (SOG) on Thursday arrested a couple from Bapunagar and seized 194.16 gm of mephedrone worth Rs 19.41 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Mohmmad Sadiq alias Babu Ansari and Ruksanabanu alias Aisha Ansari. Both are residents of Bapunagar.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Deputy Commissioner of Police (SOG) Jayrajsinh Vala said, “The accused used to bring the drugs from Maharastra. They have been consuming mephedrone for the last three years. To recover the cost of the drug, which is expensive, and fuel their addiction, they sold the drug to rickshaw drivers.”
