The police on Monday rescued the son of a well-known businessman from Bhavnagar who was allegedly kidnapped in the wee hours for a ransom of Rs 5 lakh. Palak (20),son of Pragnesh Seth,was allegedly kidnapped by two men in a car from a garba venue on Gulista Ground on Vaghavadi Road of Bhavnagar at around 1:30 am. The police said that the incident happened when Palak was waiting for his car after watching garba peformance. Before his friends could reach with their car to pick him up,the kidnappers overpowered Palak and took him away.
The abductors later made a call from Palaks mobile phone and demanded Rs 25 lakh as ransom. After negotiation,they agreed to free Palak for Rs 5 lakh, Balvant Sonara,inspector at A Division police station in Bhavnagar city,said.
Palaks family informed the police about the incident. As asked by the kidnappers,Palaks family members reached near Dhola Junction in Umrala taluka,some 60 km away from Bhavnagar city on Bhavnagar-Rajkot state highway,with a police team following them from a distance.
As the kidnappers came to accept the ransom amount,policemen in civilian dress caught them, Sonara said. The police could keep a track of the kidnappers location by tracking the location of Palaks mobile phone.
The kidnappers have been identified as Vipul Solanki (23) and Dinesh Parmar (34),both residents of Botad.
The abductors are diamond polishers. During primary interrogation,they told us that they were in debt amounting to Rs 12 lakh and sought to clear it by kidnapping and demanding ransom. They have claimed they did not know who Palak was, Sonara added.
The A Division police have seized the car used in the crime and investigation is on to verify its owner.
