The police in Mehsana district claimed Friday to have busted a human trafficking racket with the arrest of five persons, including two women. According to police,it all began two weeks ago when one Bhalaji alias Bharat K Thakore,a resident of Narola village in Kadi taluka, approached them with a complaint that his wife had been raped by two persons.
During the inquiry, the police found that the victims identity and her age were not matching. Upon questioning, her husband told us that the girl belonged to a tribal community and that he had bought her from a woman in Sabarkantha district three months ago for Rs 65,000, said Mehsana deputy superintendent of police M P Raol.
According to police, the victims parents were called from Bayad taluka of Sabarkantha district and they identified the girl and said she was less than 15 years old. They also said she had disappeared from the house three months ago and they had been looking for her since then.
The probe led the police to one Daeben wife of Nanjibhai Patel from Bayad. Raol said Daeben told him that the girl was brought by another woman, one Meena alias Munni from Nadiad.
Meena worked as an agent. She told us she found the girl at the highway close to her house. She brought her home, gave food and later sold her to Daeben for Rs 15,000. Daeben sold her again to Thakore who paid Rs 65,000 and married her, Raol said.
He said that apart from the two who raped the girl, the victims husband and the two women had also been arrested for human trafficking. He said the girl was found to be mentally unstable and thats why she had disappeared from her home.
Her parents also told the police that she was engaged to a person before she left home but they did not file a complaint for the fear of social stigma.
