A police constable died when a speeding car rammed into his motorcycle here in the early hours of Sunday. Driver of the car has been arrested.
Constable Pratap Rao Patil (38) was posted at the Madhavpura police station.
Police said the incident occurred at the Subhash Bridge when Pratap was on his way to the police station on his motorbike.
The Ranip police said the car driver was identified as Akhilesh Mishra (35),a resident of Gandhinagar and an engineer at Harsha Engineerings at Changodhar. Mishras overspeeding car allegedly hit Pratap from behind,which led the bike to skid for a few metres and left the victim with multiple injuries.
The constable was rushed to the Civil Hospital where he was declared dead. The Ranip police have filed a case of fatal accident under various sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act.
