A 16-year-daughter of a diamond polisher was allegedly raped by a police constable on Wednesday night and abandoned on the road in Amroli area in Surat.
The accused was arrested on Thursday, after the parents of the minor lodged a police complaint about the incident.
According to police sources, the victim’s family lived in the same residential society as that of the 30-year-old accused, Jitendra Makwana. The accused also had good relations with the family members of the victim.

The incident happened on Wednesday night when the minor was taking a stroll in her society. Spotting her alone, the accused policeman lured her to his house, offering her chocolates. He later raped her, police said. The incident came to light when the girl reached home.
After a police complaint was lodged, a team from Amroli police station reached the accused’s house.
Makwana was brought to the police station where he was questioned and later arrested. The victim and the accused police constable was brought to SMIMER hospital for medical examinations under tight security after word spread in the city that the victim belonged to the Patidar community.
Amroli police inspector G A Sarvaiya said, “Jitendra left for his house on Wednesday night, after finishing his duty. He has been staying in a rented house in Chhaprabhata.
His wife is pregnant and had gone to her parent’s home for delivery.
He was all alone in the house and after spotting the victim passing alone, he brought her to his house and raped her and later told her not to disclose it to anybody. The victim is mentally retarded.”
