Commenting on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s suggestion to review the reservation policy, the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Shankersinh Vaghela Tuesday said that the reservation agitation of the Patidar community, led by Hardik Patel, was sponsored by the RSS and the BJP.
Vaghela stated that there were two ideologies in the country: rightist and the leftist. He said that RSS and its offshoots — like BJP, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad etc — represented the rightist view who wanted to undermine the rights of the deprived and the underprivileged categories, particularly the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and backward classes. There was no space for the underprivileged and backward classes under the rightist ideology of the RSS, Vaghela further added. Stating that the reservation was reviewed from time to time by the Parliament and it was extended depending on the need for reservation for these groups. He said that reservation was nothing but a small initiative to get justice to the deprived and underprivileged groups.
Vaghela said that the Patidars’ demand for quota was like throwing stones in stagnant water with a view to create disturbance. He stated that the conditions were yet not favourable for withdrawing reservation.
He added that even an IAS or IPS Balmiki officer was neither allowed to sit beside upper-caste officers in villages nor take food with them in his own village.
