Vithal Radadiya, the firebrand Congress MLA from Dhoraji-Jamkandorna,settled a road accident case with his fists on Sunday. The legislator’s car was hit by a bus, after which he beat up the bus driver and also asked him to pay for the damage. But the surprising thing was that he asked the man to donate the money for a mass marriage ceremony. No police complaint has yet been filed.

Radadiya, who faces over a dozen assault cases, beat up the bus driver in the crowded Teen Bati Chowk area in Jetpur after the bus collided with his Tavera outside the ST bus stand on Sunday evening.

The MLA said he was peeved when the driver did not stop the bus after the collision.

A couple of constables who had rushed to the spot reportedly played mute spectators.

In Radadiya’s own words, his Tavera (GJ3-5944) collided with a Sitaram Travels bus (number GJ5Z5050) outside the Jetpur bus stand.

The bus was carrying members of one Parmar family from Mangrol to attend a mass marriage function, while Radadiya was on his way to Dhoraji from Jetpur.

After the accident,Radadiya asked his driver to chase the private bus.

Soon, the Tavera intercepted the bus. “I got down and taught the driver a lesson,” Radadiya said.

The bus driver has been identified as Kana Rathod of Una in Junagadh district.

Instances of the mob bashing up drivers after accidents have been on the rise, lately.

Radadiya justified his act and said,“What else was I supposed to do? Should I have remained silent and let him go? My vehicle has been heavily damaged. But we reached a compromise. So,there is no need to register a police case.”

When Newsline asked him about the nature of the compromise reached, the MLA said,“I wanted either the driver or the owner to pay for the damages; And it’s been done. Damage to my vehicle is over Rs 15,000. I made the bus owner donate the money for the mass marriage. I don’t want any money.”
