Congress leader’s son,husband among 12 arrested for gambling

A team of Adipur police raided the bungalow of Anil Bindlera,a timber merchant,near a well-known resort,at 2.15 am and arrested the 12 people.

The Kutch police busted a gambling den and arrested 12 high-profile individuals,including a state Congress leader’s husband and son,and seized valuables worth Rs 1.57 crore in Gandhidham early on Sunday morning.

A team of Adipur police raided the bungalow of Anil Bindlera,a timber merchant,near a well-known resort,at 2.15 am and arrested the 12 people,who included Suzan Tilatil,the husband of Gujarat Congress secretary Tulsi Suzan,and their son Gopal. Others,who were caught gambling,are businessmen,industrialists and a doctor,police said.

Police have seized eight luxury cars,worth Rs 1.55 crore,12 mobile phones worth Rs 1.18 lakh and Rs 1.17 lakh in cash. The seized valuables were collectively,worth

Rs 1.75 crore,police said.

“We had been keeping a watch over the area,after receiving tip-offs that the number of gambling parties rises during the month of Shravan. This was such a party. We are investigating into whether these people had been part of such gambling parties before,” Rushikesh Upadhyay,probationer deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Adipur,told The Indian Express.

According to the police,Bindlera had called all the 11 people to his bungalow for a gambling party,which he was to host for some monetary gains. A team of 15 policemen in civilian clothes raided the bungalow sometime around midnight and caught them red-handed,the DSP said.

On the basis of a complaint filed by DSP Upadhyay,Adipur police had booked the 12 people for gambling under Section 4 of the Public Gambling Act 1867. They were produced in a local court later in the day and released on bail,police said.
