At around 10.30am,a group of BJP party workers, including city mayor Bharat Shah and Standing Committee Chairman Hitendra Patel arrived at the venue chanting slogans,Bharat mata ki jai. What followed was a verbal match of chanting slogans between the Congress and BJP workers.
While the Congress workers went on with loud recitations of Gandhis hymn ‘Raghupati Raghav Rajaram, the BJP workers kept the heat on with ‘Bharat mata ki jai. This continued for some time before the BJP workers finally left the venue as the Congress workers refused to budge from the spot under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
Congress spokesperson Pragnesh Tewar said,We had sought official permission for our programme between 10 am and 2 pm five days ago. However, the BJP MPs think that because the state government is run by their party they can bring out processions without permissions at all times.
