Cong takes out rally, demands adequate water supply for Rajkot

The local Congress unit took out a rally and submitted a memorandum to Rajkot municipal commissioner Wednesday demanding adequate water supply to around 15 lakh residents of the city.

The local Congress unit took out a rally and submitted a memorandum to Rajkot municipal commissioner Wednesday demanding adequate water supply to around 15 lakh residents of the city.

Rajkot MP Kunvarji Bavalia,MLA from Rajkot East constituency,Indranil Rajyaguru, leader of Opposition in Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC),Atul Rajani, and local Congress leaders held a meeting of party workers and supporters at Trikon Baug in the morning. They alleged that when the city is reeling under a harsh summer, the BJP-ruled civic body had failed to provide adequate waster to residents.

Later on,the gathering marched to the nearby RMC office on Dhebar road and submitted a memorandum to municipal commissioner Ajay Bhadu. They demanded that the civic body supply water for 30 minutes every alternate day instead of present 20 minutes.

“When Ahmedabad,Vadodara and Surat are getting water for an hour everyday why single out Rajkot. Water Resources Minister Babu Bokhiria had announced to supply 15 MLD (million litre per day) additional water to the city a month ago. But we have not got a litre more than the regular 150 MLA till date,” Rajani said.

The commissioner said the water supply in the city would augment after the RMC starts getting additional 15 MLD additional Narmada water possibly from next week.

“We agree, with the onset of summer, the demand of water is going up. To meet this increased demand,we shall supplying water for additional two to three minutes after we start getting additional 15 MLD of Narmada water. However, this additional supply will not be enough to extend the supply duration to 30 minutes,” said Bhadu.

The RMC is to get the 15 MLD additional Narmada water from 146-km-long Dhanki-Ratanpar pipeline project. The work is expected to be completed by May 15.

The city is completely dependent on Narmada supply from early this year as local resources like Aji,Nyari and Lalpari dams went dry early due to poor monsoon.
