Suresh Kotadia, son of late Congress leader and former Union minister Manubhai Kotadia, resigned from the Congress party along with 80 others to join he BJP on Saturday. Besides him, four sitting Congress members of the poll-bound Dhari Taluka Panchayat also joined the BJP with some office-bearers of Bagasra and Amreli district Congress units.
Deputy Chief Minister Narhari Amin, who was apparently instrumental in convincing Kotadia to switch sides, said that he being a disgruntled member of the Congress was not happy with local and state Congress leaders as they would ignore his presence in the party.
According to Amin, who was also present in Rajkot on Saturday, said that the around 80 other Congress workers and elected representatives also joined the BJP in the
day. Four sitting Congress members of the poll-bound Dhari Taluka Panchayat also joined the BJP and will now contest on a BJP ticket when a mid-term election will be held on December 15 in Dhari taluka panchayat. Saturday was the last day to file nominations, said.
Gujarat state BJP general secretary Vijay Rupani said that Kotadia was not feeling comfortable in the Congress due to organisational reasons. He was feeling neglected and was not involved in important activities. Rupani said that though his late father Manubhai Kotadia was a senior party member,Suresh was denied party ticket during Assembly elections in 2007 and 2012 by the Congress.
It may be noted that Sureshs cousin Nalin, who was one of the two sitting MLAs of the Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP),has already joined the BJP recently.
