Chief Minister Narendra Modi launched the much-awaited BRTS prepaid smart card during the concluding ceremony of Kankaria Carnival here on Saturday.
The smart card will help commuters avoid long wait in queues at bus stations for coins.
An AMC release said that initially,a smart card could be purchased for Rs 25 and it would have life-time validity, renewable against payment of amounts in multiples of Rs 50 at any BRT bus station.
The release said a commuter would be able to enter the bus station by swiping the card at the flap barrier and when he or she disembarks, the card would need to be swiped again for deduction of the ticket fare from the card. The minimum deduction would be Rs two while the maximum fare would be Rs 21.
One entry would allow a commuter to stay on the route for a maximum 100 minutes, the release added.
A commuter would be fined Rs 100 if he or she tries to jump the flap barrier while going out of the bus station without swiping the card. A lost card would not fetch a refund but a spoiled card would be replaced by paying Rs 25,the release said. In case of any trouble, the Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd has advised people to dial 800-233-2030.
