On the occasion of Chhath Pooja and Gujarati New Year,Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been invited as a chief guest at a function organised by a motley group from Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand on November 17 in Ahmedabad.
The Chief Ministers Office (CMO) has given the consent to the invite from Bihar Gujarat Maitri Sangh (BIGMAS),an NGO. Some of the members of this NGO are prominent migrants from Bihar,UP and Jharkhand, and include several IPS and IAS officers. The organisers have claimed that it is a cultural event and doesnt carry any political undertones.
Last year, during the centenary celebrations of Bihar, the same group of people, under the banner of Maa Janki Seva Samiti,a registered NGO,had invited Modi to address a massive gathering. \Far from politics, this is a cultural event. There will be cultural programmes performed by singers of Bhojpuri,Maithili and Gujarati. We have received the consent from the CMO. Apart from Modi, former Cabinet minister of Bihar Giriraj Singh will be the guest of honour for the occasion, said Mahadev Jha,BIGMAS chief. IPS officer A K Sharma (posted as joint commissioner of police in the Ahmedabad Crime Branch) figures as the NGOs patron.
