Narendra Modi, the entertainer, eclipsed Narendra Modi, the politician,at the public meeting for BJPs Ahmedabad West candidate Dr Kirit Solanki on Tuesday night, but still on a serious note. During his hour-long speech, the Chief Minister mostly dwelt on Manmohan Singh-Sonia Gandhi bashing in a way that the audiences savour with great pleasure.
The entire SRP (common acronym for the State Reserve Police) is after me,friends, Modi told the gathering that was left baffled for a while what this SRP was until the CM himself revealed that SRP stood for Sonia,Rahul and Priyanka!
He advised Sonia to visit the state prepared with proper homework and correct answers, saying I am giving you questions in advance. The questions,he said, were that she owed an explanation to the people on how and why the prices of essential commodities spiralled in the last few years.
He extended an open invitation to the Congress president to stay in Gujarat for a week and travel to wherever she liked, and then compare the state with Amethi or Rae Bareilly.

Modi told people not to caste a single vote for the BJP if they thought what he was saying did not have a grain of truth. But if you think I am right, then pillory the Congress in Ellisbridge, he added. He asked as to why the Centre shied of hanging Afzal Guru, who had been convicted for his involvement in the December 2001 Parliament attack case. We can send you the rope from Pankorenaka, but, sorry,we cannot send you the courage, he said in front of a cheering public.
He said the Congress was asking questions about the Kandahar incident, forgetting it was among the political parties that had agreed that the government must do something to save lives of the passengers. He reminded the Congress of the unfolding of events when extremists abducted Rubiya Saeed, daughter of the then Home Minister Mufti Mohammed Saeed.
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister,he said Singh need not take on a person (Modi) much below the level of the PM. He expressed surprise how Singh did not feel uneasy at the 26/11 Mumbai attacks,Bihar floods or Naxal attacks in Orissa, but could not sleep over fear of losing friendship with America over the nuclear deal.
He lambasted the Centre for sending evidence of the Mumbai attacks to the US. It is like fire taking place at Ellisbridge and fire fighters rush to Kalupur! he said, giving the crowd another opportunity to burst into laughter.
