The previous committee never met in 10 years and was headed by a man

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) realised quite late that the sexual harassment redressal committee formed a decade ago was headed by a man until now. Also,it was found that not a single meeting was held all this while to discuss workplace issues.

Recently, the deputy municipal commissioner decided to call a committee meeting, when the blunder surfaced. The officials realised that the committee was headed by the former deputy municipal commissioner,H S Patel.

“There is a government resolution in this connection and it clearly says that the committee must be headed by a woman and over 50 per cent of the total number of members should be women. Since there were some irregularities,we have now formed a new committee,” said Deputy Municipal Commissioner C M Makwana.

A member of the previous committee refusing to be named confirmed that not a single meeting was held after it was formed in 1999,as there were no issues or cases.

Meanwhile, the Class IV employees are demanding that there should be one representative from their side to voice their problems at the workplace.

Trupti Shah of Kamdar Swasthya Suraksha Mandal said: “It is not true that there are no problems at the workplace. Several issues go unnoticed especially those related to the Class IV employees since there is no one to represent their problems.

We have recently made a representation at the VMC.”
