City’s businessmen,jewellers under Income Tax dept’s scanner

The Income Tax Department commenced a search drive at the offices and residences of the city's leading businessmen,jewellers and an architect on Monday.

The Income Tax Department commenced a search drive at the offices and residences of the city’s leading businessmen,jewellers and an architect on Monday. The move was aimed at finding undeclared assets of these people.

As many as 30 offices and residences will be searched,including that of builder Jagdish Pala,jeweller Jayanti Pala and architect Ashwin Sanghvi.

According to sources,at least nine bank lockers,mainly belonging to the jeweller group,have been seized by the IT department to conduct further search.

The searches are being directly conducted under the supervision of IT additional director Niraj Kumar.

The targeted builder,Pala,has several mega projects to his credit,including Maharaja Building,Kingsland,Thakor Dwar,Valkeshwar Building and Goldennesh.

Sources said that the department’s main concern about Pala was that how come all the projects under him got completely booked from the time of the foundational laying ceremony.

Since Pala is out of station,his residence in Mahavir Society will be opened up in the presence of his brother.
