Kandhal Jadeja,son of former Independent MLA,Santokben Jadeja alias Godmother,was on Monday handed over to CID (Crime). The police had sought a 15-day remand of the gangster from court till reports last came in. He was produced before court with a request for 15-day remand, said B T Vaghela,Inspector,CID (Crime).
Kandhal was arrested by Porbandar Crime Branch,along with his aide,Raja Gada,from Nigadi near Pune on July 25. He is facing several charges,including the murder of BJP councillor Keshu Nebha Odedara,who was shot dead on March 1,2005 allegedly by Kandhal and his brother Kano. The latter is still at large,the police said.
Kandhal had managed to escape from police custody in 2007 while he was admitted in Shivani Hospital in Rajkot. The police had arrested 10 people,including a doctor,after his escape.
Four policemen,identified as Suresh Sonara,Vitthal Jadav,Dilipsinh Rajpur and Pravin Gohel were also arrested and later suspended for dereliction of duty,the police said.
Kandhal was operating a transport business from Nigadi town. The police have recovered Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and a number of cellphones from his possession.
