Meet Vinayak Doval, the child star of Delhi 6
While were humming the very addictive number Massakali from Rakesh Om Prakash Mehras Delhi 6,in the video its hard to miss the bespectacled kid Sonam Kapoor is pulling along in the narrow streets of Chandni Chowk. Vinayak Doval, the Delhi based 11-year-old in Delhi 6 seems all set to bask in the glory of his first film. I always thought of becoming a sportsperson or an actor. But now I am leaning more towards acting, says Doval, who is a class 6 student of Blue Bells International School in Kailash Colony.
As we catch up with him after school,he surprises us with his self assured and adult like conversation. Talk veers around Abhishek bhaiya and Waheeda aunty and shooting schedules. My characters name is Bobby and I play Sonams younger brother in the movie, says Doval.
Chosen after rigorous auditions of over 5000 students from Delhi and Mumbai,Doval knows hes been really lucky. Rakesh (Mehra) studied in my school. But that has nothing to do with him casting me in Delhi 6, says Doval with a toothy grin.
He tells us five children were short listed and just two were finally chosen. All my teachers have been really supportive. Most of the shooting happened in Jaipur for three months and Rakesh took permission so that I could come back and give my exams, says Doval.
He enrolled into a theatre workshop with Dilip Shankar before shooting. Doval was also chosen for a role in the kiddie movie Blue Umbrella by Vishal Bharadwaj but his parents didnt allow him to take it as he was too young. The shooting was in Tehri and we werent keen, says Bandana Doval,Vinayaks mother. Doval, however is gearing up for stardom and has acquired a mini celebrity status in his school. My friends dont treat me differently, nor do my teachers but now during holidays I only want to go to Mumbai, he says. Bollywood bites.
