Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday attempted to clear the air over people’s notions regarding Naxalism in the state. “There is this mindset about the state that there is Naxalism and as soon as someone lands at Raipur airport, they expect to hear gunshots. I want to address this issue and say that this is not the situation today,” said CM  Sai at the Investors Connect Meet held in Ahmedabad.

Addressing the issue, CM Sai said the threat had presented many challenges to the state but the Centre’s strategy would see it eliminated before the set target date. He said, “Our government has completed 22 months. In January 2024, Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a review meeting on Naxalism. We realised that 77% of Naxalism is centred in Chattisgarh and the other 33% is in 6-7 surrounding states. It was a major challenge for our state as progress had stagnated in Chattisgarh due to Naxalism but the Prime Minister and Home Minister – both from Gujarat – pledged to end Naxalism, so we made a strategy. Major Maoists are being neutralised. The aim of eliminating Naxalism is March 31, 2026, but we see it happening well before that.”

When asked about rehabilitation of Naxalites, CM Sai said, “Our home minister has brought in a new rehabilitation policy after studying the models in other states. When they surrender, they get money as well as skills for jobs, and that is why more than 2,000 people have surrendered. From Bastar and Dantewada, we see the locals and surrendered Naxals coming into policing.”

To put a pause on any possible return to criminal behaviour by the Naxalites, CM Sai said, “To stop recidivism, we have a policy in the local language, which translates to “Aapka sundar gaon” (your beautiful village). Through this, 327 villages have been freed and are being provided security. The security cordon of the suraksha kendras for these villages have been extended from 5 to 10 km radius. We are bringing in government schemes, building roads, water pipelines, ration cards, providing electricity and telecommunication is getting better. Schools and hospitals are coming up. The radius of progress is increasing.”

At the meet held at a city hotel, Chhattisgarh received investment proposals worth Rs 33,321 crore, expecting to create over 10,532 fresh jobs.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, Sai said, “We have formulated the Industrial Development Policy because investors used to face problems running from one office to another.  For anyone who invests Rs 1,000 crore or gives 1,000 jobs, they are given additional subsidies. Within 10 months, we have received pledges of Rs 7.5 lakh crore worth of investment of which Rs 3.5 lakh crore is in the energy sector alone. In Ahmedabad, we have received pledges of about Rs 33,321 crore investment whose MoUs were signed today with eight companies.”

A statement from the Chhattisgarh government said, “The highest amount of investment proposal of Rs 22,900 crore came from Torrent Power Ltd to set up a 1,600 MW Thermal Power Plant generating 5,000 job opportunities.” M/s Lyceum Life Sciences Pvt Ltd, Ahmedabad, proposed investment of Rs 101 crore in the field of pharmaceutical products and medical food supplements, Torrent Pharmaceutical Ltd, Ahmedabad, plans to invest Rs 200 crore for a pharma unit, Onix-Three Enersol Private Ltd, Rajkot, has proposed to invest Rs 9,000 crore in the field of electrolyser, green hydrogen, green ammonia, green steel manufacturing plant.
