One of the key accused in sensational Chetan Battery murder case in Ahmedabad, Vishal Nayak who jumped the furlough was last seen in Ahmedabad two days ago.
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has launched a statewide hunt to nab Vishal who allegedly killed gangster Chetan Battery with the help of Gova Rabari inside the premises in Sabarmati Central Jail.
Vishal is a convict, serving a life sentence in Chetan Battery murder case and currently lodged in Lajpore Central Jail in Surat. He was supposed to return back to Lajpore Central Jail on June 2 however he jumped the furlough.
Vishal who has a history sheet in cricket betting, making fake credit cards, gambling and more has always been a tough nut for the Gujarat Police.

Interestingly, one his aides had written an anonymous letter to the Ahmedabad Police that after finishing his 14 day furlough, Vishal has decided to flee and he will not return to Lajpore jail. However, the police officials took the letter ‘lightly’ considering it to be a false information.
When Nayak didn’t reach Surat on June 2, the Naranpura police raided his residence at Naranpura at midnight. However he was neither found there nor his family members. The police had returned back seeing the locked door of his house. The Naranpura police searched for him at all the locations where he could have been found however the police reached a dead end.
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch that has now taken up the hunt to trace Vishal have found his location at various spots in the city however he is still out of the police net.
DCP (Crime) Deepan Bhadran said, “As he has jumped the furlough, we have launched a hunt. Several teams of the crime branch are looking for him. We got various locations but some of them are being left as trail to fool the investigators”.
The crime branch had last found Vishal’s location at Commerce six roads in Ahmedabad however before the crime branch teams reached there, he was nowhere to be found.
Vishal Nayak was arrested by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch in 2010 from Anupam crossroads after a long chase and run.
Vishal had stabbed Chetan Patel alias Chetan Battery inside the Sabarmati central jail with knives and iron rods when the latter was serving seven-year jail term in a murder case. Battery and Vishal had quarreled over extortion within the jail. The racket was allegedly run by Gova Rabari who was in Vadodara jail at that time.
Rabari’s men had demanded money from Battery’s associate in the Sabarmati jail. When Battery opposed the demand, Rabari directed his men Vishal and four others to kill Battery.
Vishal was later shifted to Vadodara central jail, Himmatnagar sub-jail and then shifted to Lajpore central jail in Surat.
