A group of around 200 north Gujarat Chaudhary community members led by BJP MLA and state BJP general secretary Shankar Chaudhary met the Minister of State (MOS) for Home Praful Patel on Wednesday and requested to end the growing terror of notorious Poriya gang in the region.

Almost 10 days ago,a young businessman of the community was allegedly murdered in public at Unjha after he denied to give extortion money to Poriya, the leader of the gang, said a Chaudhary community member. Poriya was on payroll and now on the run, said a police official.

The community members in their memorandum to Patel wrote that,“the Poriya gang is having political patronage of a political leader of Sidhpur and his payroll was extended by court on the recommendation of a very big political leader (of BJP).” The group also demanded to change the police officers who are handling the case.

A relative of the murdered businessman,Prakash Chaudhary, said,“Despite our many request to the local police for strong action against the Poriya gang no action have been taken so far. So we came here to request the Home Minister for quick action for justice.”

“We also opposed the payrolls to Poriya but he was given two payrolls back to back. He is close to a senior state-level BJP leader from Sidhpur and we believe that due to his influence,Poriya got payrolls and now police is not taking any action against him,” he added.
