Charges framed against three accused in Surat gangrape

Charges were framed against the three accused in the June 12 Surat gangrape case in the district principal court on Wednesday. The court proceeding will begin on October 29.

Charges were framed against the three accused in the June 12 Surat gangrape case in the district principal court on Wednesday. The court proceeding will begin on October 29.

All three accused — Abubakar Memon,Saiyed Shahid and Saiyed Tarik — were present in Judge R P Dholaria’s court along with their advocates. After advocate Babu Pathan took the case of Abubakar,Bharat Barot from Mehsana came forward to represent Shahid and Tarik on Wednesday.

According to Barot,the trio has been charged with IPC sections 373 for kidnapping,365 for abduction of her friend,366 for kidnapping with false intention,376 (2) for gangrape,170 for posing as public servants (police officers),292 for keeping obscene contents in their mobile phones,294 for keeping obscene materials at public place,114 for abetting the offence,and 120 (B) for criminal conspiracy.

Barot said,“We are well prepared with the findings in this case and will fight in the court.”

The three are accused of kidnapping a 17-year-old schoolgirl and her friend on the morning of June 12 near the New Civil Hospital on the Ring Road,and raping her in a moving car. The alleged rapists had even captured the gangrape on their cellphone camera and had threatened her not to disclose the incident or else they would make the clipping public. Two of the accused —Shahid and Tarik — are sons of police officers.
