A special court on Tuesday sent the additional commissioner of income tax arrested a day earlier for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30 lakh to five days of CBIs custody.
While seeking his custody,CBI claimed before the court that Bharti has also been found using hawala channels for transferring the ill-gotten money.
Chander Sain Bharti,a 1994-batch Indian Revenue Officer posted in Gandhinagar, was arrested Monday evening.
The officer had reportedly asked the money from a builder for passing a favourable assessment order for the income tax returns filed by the builders company for the assessment year 2010-2011. Assessment takes place only after scrutiny of I-T returns after which tax liabilities are fixed.
According to CBI,Bharti was found to have used an angadia (courier) to receive the bribe money and avoid getting caught. The probe agency said it had recovered the amount from the angadia worker.
CBI has claimed Bharti deployed one Mohammad Hussain to siphon off the money.
While asking for the officers custody for 14 days, the agency claimed that by the time a CBI team in Kolkata raided his residence there, his wife had reportedly moved out of the house and got back late. The CBI claimed they could not find anything valuables as they were removed.
The agency, however, claimed its officials had seized dozens of documents.
