Bodybuilding is attracting a large number of people from the state. The reason,though,has less to do with keeping fit and more with using it as a platform to enter the glamour world.
Over the last four years,Gujarat has witnessed a steep rise in people participating in bodybuilding contests. Most participants in state-level competitions,though,dont aim at having a good physique. Rather,they aim for good prospects in the glamour world, said Purabiya Chirag,a managing committee member of the Gujarat State Bodybuilding Association.
The new-found interest in bodybuilding was visible at the Mr Gujarat contest held by the association on Sunday. With over 175 participants from across the state,the number was much higher than the previous years.
This is a platform to get into the Mr India contest and to get noticed by the right kind of people. Since we do not have a modelling platform here,the bodybuilding contest is another way to move ahead in the field of modelling, said a participant.
Buoyed by the increased participation though,the association now plans to start district-level associations and give them affiliation in order to draw even better participation.
