Former chief minister and BJP veteran Keshubhai Patel, who has been speaking out against Chief Minister Narendra Modi at public events, has launched his own blog.

Patel’s blog at excmkeshubhaipatel.blogspot.com was launched on June 23 and has no post so far, except for a picture of the Somnath deity.

The picture of Shivlinga of Somnath Temple has “Jay Somnath” written on top of it with a picture of Keshubhai alongside. The former CM is the chairman of the Shri Somnath Temple Trust.

Sources close to Patel said though he was not trained to use the social media, the blog was created in his name to apprise people of his views on various political issues.

Sources said the need to float the blog arose because the developments were taking place at such a fast pace that it was not possible for Patel to reach to all his followers through the print and TV channels. They said the media also did not carry his views in full or the way he wanted.

Modi has been a rage on social media, having accounts on twitter,Facebook and blogging. BJP veteran L K Advani is also an avid blogger. Among the state BJP leaders,Jay Narayan Vyas and Saurabh Patel, both ministers, also use online media.

It is possible that Keshubhai’s blog would be written by a loyalist,a close confidant of Keshubhai said.

The 82-year-old Patel has been demanding removal of Modi. Last week,he met senior party leaders in Delhi, but his trip reportedly ended in great disappointment.

BJP,which had served a notice to Patel in 2007 for addressing public meetings organised by anti-Modi elements in the party,is,however, silent on his his outbursts against Modi this time. Patel is one of the chief founders of BJP in the state.
