BJP on Tuesday formed a four-member committee that would visit Gujarat to take stock of the Sikh farmers situation in the neighbouring state, from where these farmers face the fear of being evicted.
We have formed a four-member committee that will visit Gujarat soon and try to find a solution to the problems of farmers who have shifted from Punjab and Haryana, national president of Kisan Morcha O P Dhankar said.
On Monday,Chief Minister Narendra Modi had assured his Punjab counterpart Parkash Singh Badal that there was no question of Sikhs being pressurised to give up their land and leave the state. Notably, several farmers from Punjab and Haryana, who had settled in Gujarat, feared that they would be displaced from the state following a 2010 order, freezing land of farmers from outside the state.
Though the affected farmers got some relief from the High Court in 2012,Gujarat government had moved the Supreme Court challenging the relief.
