Jamnagar Congress MP Vikram Madam on Sunday alleged that Chief Minister Narendra Modi was so neck deep in corruption that to repent and apologise to public,he was going from district to district in the name of Sadbhavana Mission.

“CAG reports have alleged corruption to the tune of Rs 2,600 crore in the state. Public functions like International Kite Festival and Vibrant Navratri are the root of corruption. Where does money for functions like observing fast in public come from?” Madam said addressing his supporters during his one-day Satkarma fast.

The event was organised at Satwara Samaj Wadi on the outskirt of the town to counter Modi’s first district-level Sadbhavana Mission fast in Dwarka.

“When one overeats, one skips a meal and the chief minster was doing the same after his bellyful of corruption,” he said, adding that Modi was forced to go to districts on Sadbhavana Mission because “he feels guilty after eating so much of public money,so he has to seek apology of people”.

Madam further said the government was favouring corporates,as a result of which, they were ruling in the district. “Police are not registering complaints of farmers against Reliance while Tata is not listening to its employees who have been agitating for the last 55 days (demanding they be taken on company’s muster role),” he said.

The two-time MP said Modi was afraid of investigation and that is why is opposing appointment of Justice (retired) R A Mehta as Lokayukta. “He (Modi) says that not Justice Mehta but Justice (M B) Shah will investigate corruption charges against him,” Madam said while referring to the appointment of M B Shah Commission of Inquiry to probe corruption charges in high offices a few months ago.

Emphasising that sadbhavana should translate into action,he said the government was not giving any compensation to the sailors of Jamkhambhaliya taluka while Rs 1.5 lakh ex-gratia was given to the keen of the six people who had drowned during Ganesh immersion procession in Rajkot. The sailors belonging to Muslim community were killed in cross-firing between Oman navy and Somali pirates.

Madam broke his fast by accepting a glass of lemonade from mentally-challenged children at 5 pm.

Along with him, state Congress vice-president Bhikhu Varotaria, former ministers Dinesh Parmar,Mohammed Baloch and Ranmal Varotaria, district Congress president Hasmukh Viramgami,Dhrol-Jodia MLA Raghavji Patel and Jamjodhpur MLA Brijrajsinh Jadeja observed fast.
