The ashes of Maharaja Ranjitsinh Gaekwad,the head of the royal family of the city who died of cancer on Wednesday,will be immersed in two parts.
The family members will collect the ashes on Sunday and one part will be immersed in Narmada river on the same day. A group of family members will also leave for Haridwar probably on the same day with the other part for immersion in Ganga river.
Sources in the Laxmi Vilas Palace said the family members would collect the ashes from Kirti Mandir,the royal crematorium on the bank of river Vishwamitri near Sayaji Garden in the morning.
Devendrasinh Gakewad,Shalivahan Gakewad,Jay Gaekwad and Prasann Gakewad,all members of the Gaekwad family,would immerse the ashes in the Narmada near Sanand in Bharuch district in the afternoon as per family tradition, sources said.
Similarly,Satyajit Khachar,royal of erstwhile Jasdan state and son-in-law of Ranjitsinh will leave for Haridwar with the ashes of the late maharaja and is expected to immerse them on the next day. He will be accompanied by his two sons Raviraj and Shivraj. Ranjitsinh’s elder daughter Alaukika Raje has been married to Satyajit.
Meanwhile,Maharani of Kota (Rajasthan),Uttara Devi visited the Gaekwads on Saturday with her family and conveyed her condolences to the bereaved family. She was accompanied by her son and a MP,Yuvraj Ishiraj Sinh and daughter-in-law Kalpana Devi.
