Ye Akshardham wale hain,ye Mumbai ki ladki ke sath wale hai,aur ye Bhavnagar wala hai, is how Dilawar Hussain Bukhari, the 60-year-old grave digger and caretaker, identifies the unclaimed bodies of terrorists that lie buried in the Musa Suhag Kabristaan at Shahibaug in Ahmedabad.
Mera kaam to kabar khodna ka hai. Ye kaun hai,kya naam hai, kuch malum nahi (I only dig graves; who are these people, what are there names,I have no idea), says Bukhari.
Bukhari said except Sadiq Jamal Mehtar,a resident of Bhavnagar gunned down by a team of Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) in January 2003,he doesnt remember the names of any other deceased. He identifies them by the incidents in which they were killed.
Sadiq Jamals grave is the only one with a gravestone identifying him.
According to Bukhari,Sadiqs family feared taking him back to Bhavnagar would spark off riots. So,they buried him here.
Also,in the graveyard rest the bodies of Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai and the two alleged Pakistani nationals,Zeeshan Johar and Amjadali Akbarali Rana, the three men killed in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.
However,a path built around three years ago runs over the graves of two of the three killed. Bukhari is unsure whose graves went under this recently-built road.
Javeds father Gopinatha Pillai had come once to pray at his sons grave. Bukhari remembers his grave as the one near the police commissioners office.
Next to these graves are buried the two terrorists killed in the Akshardham attack.
Bukhari, who has been digging graves for the past three decades, said that recently during Shab-e-Barat,the two graves had been painted green.
