Anand-origin man attacked in North Carolina, critical

Patel was shot from a close range in his forehead while he was parking his car.

A 45-year-old man, identified as Ashish Kumar Patel, originally from Anand in Gujarat, was hospitalised with bullet injuries after he was shot at by unidentified attackers in North Carolina on Saturday morning.

Patel was shot from a close range in his forehead while he was parking his car after returning from a visit to the Swaminarayan temple.

The incident occurred near Patel’s North Carolina home on Saturday morning. Patel, who is a businessman running a motel and a store in North Carolina, had just returned after a visit to the Swaminaryan temple with his son Krish. Just as he was parking his car, unidentified attacker approached him and fired on his head. His family, which is reported to have witnessed the incident, immediately rushed Patel to the hospital.

Patel originally hails from Samrakha village in Anand district and had moved to North Carolina with his family in 1987. Patel’s wife Manisha hails from Vaso village in Anand and is the daughter of the deputy sarpanch Bhanu Patel alias Raja.

On receiving the news, Raja Patel went to North Carolina late on Sunday evening. Ashish Patel has two children — son Krish (15) and daughter Twinkle (13). According to reports, Patel is critical.
