In a reply to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi who reportedly claimed that one year of the Narendra Modi government has not brought any changes, BJP national president Amit Shah on Friday claimed that unlike scams of over Rs 12 lakh crore in total by the Congress, it can’t even point out one “ghapla-ghotala” (scam) of the BJP-led NDA government.

Addressing Gujarat BJP workers felicitation programme at party headquarters in Koba of Gandhinagar district, Shah said, “Yuvraj aap kehte hain kya parivartan hua hai. Congress ke netao mein agar himmat hain to ish 11 mahino ki andar ek bhi ghapla-ghotala nikal ke baaye. (Yuvraj you say what changes we have brought in one year. If the Congress leaders have courage then point out even one scam in last 11 months).

“But I can give you list of 25 scams. In 10 years, the Congressmen had taken away Rs 12 lakh crore to their homes. Be it 2G scam, CWG or helicopter or airplane purchase and the Congress men had even eaten away coal,” said Shah. He appreciated the Gujarat unit of BJP for making maximum number of new members — 1.15 crore — in the country in recently ended membership drive. He also felicitated workers who have brought more than 1,000 new primary members into the party fold.

“Aap bus mein ghumo ya train mein…par janta ko Modi sarkar ke kaam dikh te hain (Whether you move in bus or train…but people can see work done by the Modi government)” Shah said, referring to the recent train journey taken by Rahul Gandhi from Delhi to Ambala to meet farmers in connection with crop failures and land acquisition Bill.

“The Opposition can’t make any allegation, even though the BJP government is about to complete a year,” he said.

Shah alleged that Congress sold out 220 coal mines to its own people. “The Supreme Court cancelled those mines. The BJP has auctioned only 20 mines and deposited Rs 2 lakh crore to exchequer,” he added.

“You auctioned big 2G spectrum for Rs 8,000 crore…the BJP has recently auctioned a small spectrum and deposited Rs 1.9 lakh crore to public exchequer. Inflation rate in the UPA rule never went below 7 per cent, but wholesale inflation index for March is -2.30 per cent and it is not just depended on fuel prices,” Shah said.

While former prime minister Indira Gandhi did nationalisation of the banks, but it is through Jan Dhan by the Narendra Modi government that banks’ doors have been finally opened to the poor, he claimed. He also asked the party workers to check that “rumours” related to land acquisition Bill do not get spread. “I can assure that there is nothing in the Bill that can lead to acquisition of land for industrialists,” Shah said.

At the event, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel made a point mentioning that the party chief Amit Shah now is hardly seen in his home state. In the beginning of her speech, she said, “After me, party president will speak. We do not often get chance to listen to his speech.”

She went on to say that the state should feel proud because, “The party president and the PM are from Gujarat.”
