The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is planning to set up a helpline number for each zone where residents can inform if any tree requires maintenance. The information could be related to dead trees or if any tree requires water,fertilisers or is infested by termites. The AMC also plans to reward citizens who help a tree in distress.
Expected to be launched this month,the helplines will provide immediate help to trees. The numbers for each zone will be publicised through various media,including radio and hoardings.
“The AMC has chalked out a project of plantation on roads across the city. We realised this could sustain only with residents’ support. Saplings are planted but after a few weeks they are dead due to lack of care and maintenance. We decided to launch a helpline where anybody can call and inform about any tree in need of help,” said Jignesh Patel,director,parks and gardens.
This monsoon,the plantation project launched by the AMC includes about 22,000 saplings on a stretch of 221 kilometres across the city and 36,000 saplings on a stretch of 65 kilometres along both sides of SP ring road.
