AMC Opposition leader Badruddin Shaikh has advised Municipal Commissioner G P Mohapatra not to play in the hands of ruling party, and instead play his role of chief executive of the urban local body neutrally without succumbing to pressure exerted by his political bosses.
He regretted that senior officials were emboldened to deny meeting agenda details of Transport Committee that was held on Monday.
Citing the incident,Shaikh said the AMC Transport Manager Arjav Shah did not provide the meeting agenda copy even for a cursory look, despite being specifically asked over the phone.
Since there is no Congress representative in the Transport Committee, ruling BJP members are taking political decisions with impunity. Shaikh said in a letter to the Municipal Commissioner.
He alleged that the ruling BJP was misusing the administrative wing for implementing its own political agenda in running bus service. The city bus service is losing Rs 50 lakh regularly on a daily basis, making it heavily dependent on the AMC bailout on the one hand, and spending heavily on wasteful functions and controversial procurements on the other, he said. Shaikh has written to the Municipal Commissioner to instruct officials to reach necessary information to the Opposition on an urgent basis.
Shah said the Congress leader has been offered explanation on agenda items, but he is insisting on getting files and copies of resolutions to be sent to his office, which was not in line with the procedure.
