Anandraj Ambedkar, grandson of Dr. B R Ambedkar, who is in Surat on 121 birthday anniversary of the father of Indian constitution,on Friday raised the issue of reservation for SC,ST and OBC people of Maharashtra staying in Surat and south Gujarat since last 40 years. The Gujarat Government should give similar reservations to them like in Maharashtra,he said.

There are many Maharashtrians staying in Surat since long and majority of them are labourers working in different industries in the area.

“Maharashtra Government had enacted a new law which states that anybody arrested for using abusive languages on caste for SC/ST should not be given bail. We wish that such law should be implemented in Gujarat also. There are many burning issues which Maharashtrian community people face in Surat and south Guajrat. We will slowly take up one by one and after discussion with government,we will try to resolve it.”

Comparing with Indira Gandhi and Mahatma Gandhi,Anandraj further said similar type of memorial should be made in the name of Ambedkar.
