After Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit, the public in general and thousands of state youth in particular will get to see the daredevil stunts performed by Indian Air Force (IAF) men in Ahmedabad, said a top officer of the South Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force (IAF) here on Sunday.
Chief Minister Anandiben Patel had specially asked the Air Force officials in Gandhinagar to organize such a platform so as to interact with state youth. The air show is scheduled to be held on January 17 at the GMDC grounds in Ahmedabad.
The air show is being organized in co-ordination with the Air Force Association (AFA), an organization of the retired air warriors of the force.
Retired Group Captain, S Chatterjee from AFA said, “The response of the youth in joining the defence services from Gujarat is the least. Therefore, we want to create an awareness among the students and youth on career options in Air Force. The youth in Gujarat need a detailed insight into the air force and for that we have decided to show a few operations live during the show.”
Since youth from across the state are in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar to participate in the VGGIS and PBD they will get a chance to observe the live show.
Gr Capt Chatterjee also stated that the function was planned to coincide with the Vibrant Gujarat Summit. However, it was postponed to facilitate the youth to take part in all the events.
The IAF officers will perform daredevil air warrior drill, slithering operations of Garuda special forces, powered hang gliding, para sailing to educate and enthrall the youth to join it. The Air Force’s band will also perform a show and videos of some key air operations of the Air Force will also be shown to the youth at the ground.
The youth in the state have the lowest representation in the Air Force, Army and Navy, the officials observed. The Air Force and Navy have been advertising for the direct recruitment for the air and naval officials for last few months. However, a skewed percentage is able to clear the tests, the officials said.
When it was brought to the notice of the state government, it asked the Air Force to organize air shows at the Air Force stations in the State to connect with the youth. Already some air shows were organized in Bhuj, Jamnagar and Vadodara air force stations. They received overwhelming response.
To cash in on this, the Air Force sought permission from the state government to conduct an air show inside a metro city. Here, the youth will also get an opportunity to interact with the air force officials on career options in all three wings of the defence forcees
Defence PRO, Wing Commander Abhishek Matiman said, “The State CM Anandiben Patel had asked the Air Force to carry out air shows in the State to bring more awareness of the force among the youth. This is being organized specially to encourage recruitment from Gujarat.”
It will be followed by ‘Vayu Shakti Sandhya’, a cultural event, on January 18 at the Sardar Patel stadium where astronaut and Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma would be present. The Governor of Gujarat, OP Kohli would be the Chief Guest. He will give away the gallantry awards to the air warriors.
