Ahmedabad students to get smart cards for low-cost AJL bus ride

The school and college students in Ahmedabad will get smart cards at a concessional rate to travel in buses run by Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd (AJL) under Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) rapid transit system (BRTS) in the city. The AJL will start distribution of application forms from September 10 for the facility that will be activated from September 16.

The students will be issued a smart card for Rs 25 after filling up an application form available at all bus stations,said AJL officials. The form can also be downloaded from AJL website for free.

The applicant will get the smart card from the bus station where it will be submitted,said officials. However,the concession is not applicable for distance learning students or those doing part-time or private courses.

The students will be able to use the cards during the BRTS operational hours — 6 am to 11 pm,and they will get Rs 140 balance against the recharge of Rs 100,a concession of 40 per cent. Use of a smart card by person other than the card-holder will incur cancellation of it and the original card owner will be debarred from getting another card,officials said.
