The city police on Tuesday rescued a boy,who had reportedly gone missing from Nandurbar in Maharashtra in February, from Ahmedabad. The boy was found working as a construction labourer in Chandlodia area of the city.
The Vastrapur police traced Ronak Chakor (16) on the basis of the number from which his father Dilip received phone calls recently. Ronak had reportedly called his father from a number thrice in the last few days saying he was fine.
The parents, who were on a hunt for Ronal from February 18,got it confirmed that the number was from Gujarat and rushed to Ahmedabad to get him back. The parents had also lodged report in this connection in Nandurbar on February 19.
Dilip told us that he received a call thrice from the number. When he found out that it was from Gujarat, they came to us asking for help. The number was traced and we found the location. When we checked,we found the boy was working with several other boys as labourers, police said.
Inspector M R Sharma said,The boy had run away from school because he had a fight with his school friends. His friends’ parents threatened him to book a complaint against him.
He reportedly took a train randomly and landed up in Surat. He met a few migrants of Rajasthan who were coming to Ahmedabad for work. They convinced him to join them in doing labour work.
In order to bring control on the cases of children going missing from the city, the Ahmedabad Police have appointed beat officers in all police stations and chowkies in the city to patrol near schools and areas where children gather for activities.
JCP Ajay Tomar said,In every police station,we have appointed two policemen to patrol near schools, playgrounds, activity centres and festivals where large number of children gather. This will help us to keep tabs on people who are suspected to be kidnapping children for begging and labour work.
