Ahmedabad gets its first Mahila bank

According to reports,three more branches would be opened by March 2014 in Rajkot,Surat and Vadodara.

Out of seven branches of Bharatiya Mahila Bank,the first all-women bank of the country,Ahmedabad got one on Tuesday. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the seven branches through video conferencing from Mumbai in presence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other ministers.

The local branch here is located off C G Road toward Gulbai Tekra. At the Ahmedabad branch,the inauguration ceremony was attended by RBI regional director Dr Sudarshan Sen and Dena Bank chairman and managing director Ashwini Kumar. According to them,the bank in Gujarat would be a boon to women seeking financial help for their small ventures.

In a symbolic gesture,they handed over loan money cheques to five women and SHG members besides opening five accounts on the first day to local women.

According to reports,three more branches would be opened by March 2014 in Rajkot,Surat and Vadodara.

The loans distributed to five women here were for purchase of sewing machine,to run retail vegetable shop and for further study to girls.
