Gujarat Police books X handle for ‘false message’ about CM Bhupendra Patel, Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi

The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Ahmedabad City Police on Saturday (August 22) booked the owner of a handle on the social media site X, for allegedly publishing a post suggesting a change of guard in Gujarat.
In a statement, the DCB said they had booked the individual behind the X handle “Pawan Tyagi (@PAWANTYAGI_07)”, for publishing a post that amounted to a “criminal conspiracy”. The DCB statement said, “Strict legal action will be taken against those trying to publish such fictitious posts on social media by such acts trying to create fear and panic among the public”.
The development comes at a time when Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is on a week-long visit to the United States and Canada to promote business partnerships ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat summit next year. Chief Minister Patel’s tour that began August 17 will conclude on August 24.
The Crime Branch, reproducing the post in a statement said, “This false message was put in a post on social media site X, made viral, causing damage to the constitutional post of the Chief Minister, as well as to the reputation of Bhupendra Patel and Harsh Sanghavi.”
The X handle “@PAWANTYAGI_07” is purportedly owned by an individual who describes himself as “Executive Editor, Pyara Hindustan news Network, The News News channel, Swayamsevak”.
The operator of the handle has been booked under Sections 336(4) (forgery committed with the intention to harm the reputation of any party), 353(1) (making, publishing, or circulating false statements, rumors, or reports, including via electronic means) and 62(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), as well as Section 66(d) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Bhupendra Patel has been serving as Chief Minister of Gujarat since September 2021. Sanghavi was elevated as his Deputy in October 2025. He holds a number of important portfolios including Home, Police Housing, Jail, Border Security, Prohibition and Excise, Transport, and Law and Justice.

Sanghavi, who is 41 years old, was just 27 when he first entered the Legislative Assembly. He is seen as the youth face of the BJP in Gujarat, and is believed to have the trust of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the former president of the Gujarat BJP C R Paatil.
