Ahmedabad blasts: Duo sent to 14-day police remand

The Designated Metropolitan Court on Wednesday sent two persons from Kerala in police remand till April 28 in connection with the July 26 Ahmedabad serial blasts case.

The Designated Metropolitan Court on Wednesday sent two persons from Kerala in police remand till April 28 in connection with the July 26 Ahmedabad serial blasts case. The two have been brought from Bangalore jail on transfer warrant by the Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB).

The two have been identified as Sainuddin ET Mohammed alias Abdul Sattar alias Salim (58) and his son Sarfuddin ET Mohammed alias Sharif (29) from Kerala. They were arrested by the Bangalore police in connection with the serial blasts that rocked Bangalore just before the Ahmedabad serial blasts. Both were in the custody of the Bangalore police since then .

According to special public prosecutor in the case,Mitesh Amin,the father-son duo has confessed to have provided the explosive material used in the Ahmedabad blasts. They are also believed to be close accomplices of underworld gangsters Riyaz Bhatkal and Iqbal Bhatkal,who also played important roles in the blasts and are absconding.

In their remand application,DCB officials have stated that they want to interrogate the duo regarding the details of the explosive material and about the whereabouts of Riyaz Bhatkal and Iqbal Bhatkal.

Designated Metropolitan Magistrate G M Patel allowed the application and granted 14 days police custody of the two.
